HOW TO DO IT?

Meditation is an approach to training the mind, similar to the way that fitness is an approach to training the body.

Focus your attention on the breath

Take a seat, pay attention to your breath, and when you catch your mind wandering bring it back to what you're doing.

Focus your attention on your breath and how the body moves with each inhale and exhale.

Make no effort to control your breath; simply focus your attention.

Maintain this meditation practice for 2–3 minutes to start, and then try it for longer periods.

5 Don'ts

1. Don’t expect to be good at first — that’s why it’s called “practice”

2. Don’t get caught up in the how - just do it

3. Don’t worry about clearing the mind - just try to practice focusing your attention

4. Don’t just say: “Sure, I’ll try this for a couple days.” - really commit yourself to this

5. Don’t worry too much that you’re doing it wrong - just be happy you’re doing it
